We follow a Finnish philosophy and place a very high focus on life skills, well-being and mental health. We have 3 options available:
All staff have been trained by Beverley-Sarah to deliver a coaching and mentoring approach. BS also, as an experienced practitioner and consultant, delivers solution focussed coaching sessions which include elements of CBT. If full CBT is required this is delivered by our clinical psychologist, Dr Petch. BS is also qualified to deliver Mindfulness, Meditation, Indian Head Massage and Life Coaching. She particulalrly works with students who have high levels of OCD, those who self-harm and those who have eating disorders. She is also a specialist in ASD approaches and Emotional Behavioural needs. BAGA trained and has worked with OTs to create gymnastics based physical development programmes. BS also leads on sensory processing, drawing for talk, freedom dance and behaviour support. She has also just completed training in one health animal therapeutic work.
BEVERLEY-SARAH IS A QUALIFIED TEACHER, HEAD TEACHER AND HAS 20 YEARS TEACHING EXPERIENCE, and 10 YEARS COACHING EXPERIENCE, including having been a placement coach for prospective head teachers.
Every tuition student who attends day time sessions has a sensory diet programme to reduce anxiety and also support occupational therapy targets. Each child has specific exercises, table top activities and tasks which are bespoke to them. We also have lots of group sensory processing activities and programmes to help those who are sensory seeking and others who are sensory adverse. Our visiting OTs review progress.
Linda is qualified as a practitioner in Lego Therapy. She is also a teacher of the deaf, and has worked alongside speech and language therapists for many years.
She delivers LEGO THERAPY sessions to students at the centre as part of an afternoon of tuition services. She is also a qualified meditation teacher.
She is an attached member of the Therapy Team, as she is a key part of the academic team, leading on ACADEMIC INTERVENTIONS.
Elaine delivers Indian Head Massage with a particular focus on reducing anxiety in students with SEN or other needs. Elaine is also qualified to deliver touch typing courses and works with students who find writing very difficult.
Elaine is our COUNSELLOR, and delivers counselling services also. She is qualified in Indian Head Massage and is a qualified Meditation Teacher. Elaine leads the THERAPY TEAM.
Thera-play is used throughout the centre, along with weighted therapy, dark dens and other tools to reduce anxiety. We have several staff who are training in full play therapy currently, as well as staff training in counselling. These are 4 year courses requiring a lot of dedication and it is wonderful that we are able to attract so many trainee practitioners as we benefit greatly from their enthusiam and expertise.
Hannah is training to be a clinical psychologist and runs the thera-play services, and also our mindfulness programme. As well as being half way through her current training, she is a qualified mindfulness and meditation teacher, and a massage therapist. She is particularly good at working with those who have panic attacks, low self esteem or have experienced self-harm.
Textiles, clay, art, wire work, knitting and all forms of artistic expression are used to provide opportunities to explore emotions, have fun and relax. Our resources are extensive and students have free access.
Sarah, our ARTS COUNSELLOR, delivers a weekly rotated timetable of experiences. Sarah is also a qualified meditation teacher and Indian Head Massage practitioner.
Animal Therapy also plays a key role for us and we have our own Therapy Dog which the children can take for walks and chat to!
We also have two rabbits!
Staff carrying out the animal-based work are trained and able to ensure that it is a proper well-being experience, not just a fun time with animals!
