Beverley-Sarah has been a long time advocate of a more skills based, holistic curriculum which takes into account life skills, and so-called 'soft' skills which are needed for good mental health and to succeed in the world of work. She introduced the centre to the Finnish curriculum and is passionate about a Scandinavian approach.
She has experience and training beyond typical ASD, PDA, Dyslexia approaches and uses holistic massage, aromatherapy, weight therapy, mindfulness and meditation, EFT, solution-focused life coaching, mentoring and drawing therapy when working with students who have acute anxiety and mental health difficulties. “ As an 18 year old I could be quite forthright, political even, but I like to think it came from a position of passion rather than impoliteness .... When I showed my form teacher my grades at A level she commented that ‘A grade students’ should not go into teaching as it wasn’t really needed, so perhaps I should consider a Law degree instead .... I replied politely with thanks for the back handed comment, but also pointed out that perhaps the comment showed that there really was a need for the best and most motivated students to go into UK teaching to ensure aspiration, inspiration and innovation within the system...after all do we not all want the best for future generations? .... I should have stopped there, but to my shame I did conclude with: In Scandinavia Miss, many teachers hold Master’s Degrees as standard ... I promptly got a detention!! Good teachers don’t have to be A Grade students, but we should aspire to have the very best people, the most enthusiastic people, the best critical thinkers, the best facilitators - otherwise what’s the point? I want my kids to be taught by people who will mentor them and inspire them, not a person who has just turned up for work today. I want children to be taught in a system that helps them to be creative, innovative and promotes their strong mental health helping them to discover who they are - to really do that a 'one size fits all' just won't do, and it certainly won't do for our most vulnerable students "
