The next major staff training event is a HALF DAY CLOSURE on Thursday 1st April. This will allow staff to have safeguarding supervision workshops.
Staff meeting training this half term is going to focus on:
Subject Leadership training
Embodiment (led by our psychotherapist)
Further depression in young people training (university affiliated course)
We are also preparing to announce a new style of grouped subject leadership during the summer term which is an exciting curriculum development!
We are carrying out some themes across the whole school but planned at very different levels.
We are working on creative writing based on a pictorial book 'Journey' by Aaron Becker. As part of this work students will also carry out some philosopy and art tasks.
We are then looking at full texts which also have graphic representations by studying the Alex Rider novels and in the upper schools comparing these with the Young Bond series. These spy novels will lead us nicely into Science week at the start of next term!
After these creative units, which will be used to track progress and work samples across all year groups, the focus for each age will alter:
Year 11 - final exam preparation and workplace English
Year 10 - An exploration of 'Identity' including the study of Romeo and Juliet (William Shakespeare) / The Thief Lord (cornelia Funke)
Year 9 - Journalistic writing
Year 8 - Media based English, film reviews and book comparisons
Year 7 - Writing opinions, TV reviews and guides - lots of appropriate films to look at and critically review, including animations
