We think animals are amazing therapeutic aids and friends. Animals help with socialisation, can often support students in over-coming depression, anxiety and trauma, and provide someone to talk to when you can’t get the words out to humans - moon bears whilst not a direct therapeutic pet, provide excellent teaching and therapy opportunities for us at the centre.
As a company we seek to expand into new areas in order to help as many children and young adults as possible. To do this we need to start saving profits to create new centres.
We also seek to spread the word and educate schools, parents and the community about positive integration of therapy, well-being and education. We often carry out consultancy at subsidised rates in order to work with schools where we feel our input is needed. We also fund parent support groups. We also run courses for professionals.
We also seek to encourage a broader education system with well-being at the heart of it and urge professionals and authorities to look towards Finland and areas of Scandinavia for inspiration. We fund professional trips and links, and feed this into the training courses we offer to parents and professionals.
We are also starting a new programme to support families with the initial funding of a therapy animal if they would otherwise be unable to do so.
Finally ........ we also seek to support bears, and in particular Moon Bears, who have so many characteristics in common with our awesome young people.
KEVIN - sponsored via Animals Asia
We've been huge Jill Robinson fans for a while, watching and admiring from afar her incredibly brave work fighting animal cruelty in the Far East, and trying to end China’s barbaric trade in bear bile- a substance painfully ‘milked’ from these poor creatures - tragically much sought after in traditional medicine.
Moonbears, so-called because of their moon-shaped crescent on their chest, imprisoned in tiny cages on horrific bile farms, are commonly starved, dehydrated, and suffer multiple diseases such as malignant tumours that ultimately kill them.
Wonderful charity Animals Asia, founded by Jill in 1994, now devotes all their time, patience, passion, resources, and energy to ending this horrific practice as well as helping improve the welfare of all animals in China and Vietnam.
Many of the animals suffer depression, high anxiety and in the case of KEVIN the bear we sponsor also have to overcome physical injury as he is missing a paw.
