Superhero Ideas

Last week the GCSE group worked on creating a superhero, protagonist, villian or 'anti-hero'. We discussed films where you were not quite sure if the main character was 'good' or 'bad'.

We then worked on how to write a summary of 1 paragraph to go on a character profile. This is hard as you only have a limited amount of words in which to impress the audience with good punctuation, precise imaginative word choices and concise information.

We then attempted to draw our character in a forward pose, thinking about realistic proportions that we have been studying in art and how to exaggerate these potentially to create something that affected the viewer in a specific way.

Take this work further at home (3 ideas):

In art we have been looking at the human skull as a structure, then how to add 'flesh' and create a detailed facial drawing - can you draw your character in 3 different expressions, close-up?

Can you invent a theme tune for the new programme? This could be a 'traditional' super hero anthem or something more complex, to reflect the multi-faceted nature of an anti-hero.

Can you create a comic book page for part of the storyline for your character - look at previous work on Manga, graphic novels or novellas for inspiration.

Send Bev your work direct either in Word, as a jpeg screen shot or as a music file to  She would like to award prizes for any particularly good entries, in any category.

If you are not in Bev's group or are in the lower school you can still take part and submit work in the same way!

amazing work by Alice:

Leah was born in the city, in a small alleyway, on the outsirts of the murky brown river. Just before she was born the angels and demons argued extensively who would have control over the chosen child; fighting for two long, resulting in strange and peculiar behaviour in Leah. At the age of six when she knew a person in class wanted coloured pencil she owuld float it over to them, before a classmate could sieze it. At 12 she knew she was different; she absorbed people's emotions and occasionally when she became overwhelmed, she had to hide the bright neon fluid that leaked from her eyes.
